Interdisciplinary Project
Much of what teachers do is interdisciplinary in nature, but this project was designed to combine aspects of science (animals and biomes), social studies (landforms), and language arts (writing and oral presentation).
Students were asked to create a new creature that could survive in one of Earth's existing biomes. They had to explain what adaptations their creature had that allowed it to exist in the specific characteristics of the biome they chose. Then, they had to create either a drawing or a three-dimensional model of their creature, an oral presentation about it, and a wiki entry to share more details about their creature with family and friends.

A wiki is a community-generated collection of knowledge. I created an online wiki for the students to contribute to using Wikispaces, which allowed me to control who could see and edit the wiki pages.
